Tuttle Orchard

Today we went to a nearby orchard. The first tour we took was the Apple Then and Now tour. We learned about the history of the orchard and what kinds of things they make with their apples. We learned how the apples are sorted and how the cider is pressed. We all got to pick 4 Red Delicious apples off the tree to take home. We also got to try a small sampling of apple cider.

Then we took a hayride trip out to the pumpkin patch to choose a pie pumpkin to take home. Our next tour was about how pumpkins grow and the differences between pumpkins and gourds.

When the tours were done, we were allowed to walk through the corn maze. Then we picked some more apples from the trees to purchase and got some apple cider and caramel apples from the orchard store.

The weather was wonderful and a few of the dads (including Ryan) got to join us on this trip. We had a lot of fun and will be returning to this orchard next year!

Scout trip to Guffey Acres corn maze

Nicolas's cub scout group went to a local corn maze last night.  We went last year and the fields were VERY muddy.  This year, we didn't have to worry about mud!  The temperatures were great last night.  We were able to go through both corn mazes.  There were questions at certain check points pertaining to scouting.  The correct answer led you the right direction.

This is at one of the checkpoints.

Just about lost one of the boys, but they all made it out!

Birthday Unit

In honor of Nicolas's birthday, he completed a notebook all about him.  He worked through some of the download and go Birthday Bonanza.

This page shows the change in his weight and height from when he was born until now.

Here is a comparison of his foot when he was born to what size it is now.

Some of Nicolas's favorites (at age 9).  It will be interesting to see what favorites change as he grows up.

He also completed a timeline of his life, and copied several verses about how God has a plan for him or that God knew him before he was born.

I think he had fun completing this one.  It was a nice change from the "normal" types of unit studies.
