Chocolate Unit Study

Over Valentine's week, we decided it would be fun to study more about chocolate using Amanda Bennett's DNG study. Over the course of the study, we watched several videos showing how chocolate is made and rainforests where cacao beans come from. Each day we studied a different chocolatier.

Day 1 was Milton Hershey. We watched a Youtube video of a tour of the Hershey chocolate factory in Pennsylvania. Then we used Hershey's kisses to make cookies.

Day 2 was Henri Nestle. We used Nestle's chocolate chips and some cream to make a fondue to dip pretzels and fruit.

Day 3 was John Cadbury. It would've been wonderful for it to have been closer to Easter to get some Cadbury eggs, but we had to settle for a Cadbury candy bar to try. We all enjoyed it.

Day 4 was Domingo Ghirardelli. I purchased an 86% cacao bar to try, the darkest chocolate I could find. It was very bitter and the boys and I decided we don't care for chocolate that dark.

Day 5 was Rodolphe Lindt. I purchased a mixture of Lindt truffles - some white chocolate (which we found out has not cacao beans in it at all, only cocoa butter), milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Very yummy!
